Universal’s CityWalk is Opening for Limited Operations
After being shuttered for almost two months, Universal Orlando’s CityWalk will be reopening on Thursday, May 14th on a limited basis at 4 p.m. to 10 p.m daily.
About a half-dozen restaurants and eateries, as well as two retail shops and some merchandise carts will be open for business.
However, all clubs, movie theater, and Blue Man Group will remain closed. This is a great sign as Orlando’s theme parks are taking extra precautious and baby steps to get back to business after closing in mid-March because of the coronavirus pandemic.
This was announced shortly after Walt Disney World announced that they will be open Disney Springs on Wednesday, May 20th for third-party shops and restaurants to reopen as well.
What’s Open at CityWalk?
Selected full-service restaurants and quick-service food will be open with limited menu:
- Auntie Anne’s Pretzels
- Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant and Market
- Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville (Outside & Lone Palm)
- Red Oven Pizza Bakery*
- Voodoo Doughnut*

- Hart & Huntington Tattoo Company® (retail only)
- Universal Studios Store™ and select merchandise carts
- Hollywood Drive-In Golf™
Universal Citywalk’s New Operational Procedures
Along with CityWalk employees, visitors will be required to wear face coverings. They will also be subject to temperatures checks.
These are just some of the new measures that have been put in place to keep people safe from coronavirus. Here are the changes visitors will encounter.
- STAGGERED PARKING
Parking will be free for time being. However, Valet parking is not available at this time. Keep an eye on the attendants as they will be directing you to every other space throughout the garage.
- SAFETY SIGNS / MARKERS
Guests will see safety signs spread out from parking structures to Citywalk as a reminder about the new rules like mandatory face covering, social distancing, and frequent hand wash.As for social distancing, there are markings indicating six feet of space been placed along walkways, at the temperature screening, security checkpoints, and at business throughout Citywalk to manage lines.
- ADDITIONAL SCREENINGS
Before heading to the security hub, guests will have their temperatures checked at the parking structure before entering CityWalk security checkpoint. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will not be allowed to enter as well their party. Temperatures are checked using an infrared thermometer and takes only a few seconds. All team members will have their temperatures check once they arrived on property as well.
- FACE MASK / HAND SANITIZERS FOR SALE
Universal’s Merchandise Carts will have face mask as well Hand Sanitizers for sale if you don’t have one or need one. Hand Sanitizers will be available throughout CityWalk as the resort will continuously and thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting all tables, chairs and high-touch surfaces.
Will Theme Parks and Hotels be open as well?
According to Universal Orlando Resort Operational Update as of today, theme parks and hotels are remain closed through at least May 31st. Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Citywalk Hollywood also remain closed at this time.
