The Mandalorian Season 3 will be here on March 1, 2023 at 3:01AM EST/12:01 PST on Disney+! Disney doesn’t do things by halves and after a great finale from season two of The Mandalorian, fans like myself are desperate to see what lies ahead for the upcoming series.
While there’s a consistent stream of Star Wars spin-offs also being released, with Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi already available as well Ahsoka on the way too. The Mandalorian is still one of the most popular spin-offs in the Star Wars Universe.
What do we know?
While season one of The Mandalorian was about laying the foundation for a bigger story, season two dove deep into Star Wars lore, taking us on a journey through a variety of sand, snow, water, and forest planets. Season two has really expanded what we know from season one. The finale of The Book of Boba Fett left off with Grogu and Din united again which guaranteed to bring the “Mando and Grogu” again that made the series popular.
Since Disney released The Mandalorian back in 2020, it has dominated pop culture since then. This show isn’t just about Din and Grogu anymore. With Boba Fett, Ahoska Tano, Bo-Katan Kryze, and even Luke Skywalker showing up in The Mandalorian, the series is now more expensive than ever.
Season 3 Trailer and Updates
Disney and Lucasfilms have been teasing us with a couple trailers and finally dropping the official trailers during Buccaneers-Cowboys NFL Wild Card playoff game. We got the most in-depth look at the new season of The Mandalorian so far! It held us with high anticipation of what is coming this season.
As Mando says in the new The Mandalorian season 3 trailer, “Our people are scattered… like stars in the galaxy. What are we? What do we stand for?” Din Djarin speaks these clues to the overarching plot of the third season while surrounded by other Mandalorians from the various separate clans, identified by their respective armors. Mando and Grogu also return to meet with Bounty Hunters’ Guild agent who helped them escape the Empire, Greef Karga. Speaking with The Armorer, Mando confirms his plans to return to Mandalore in order to “be forgiven for my transgressions.” A group of Mandalorians then join Mando in defending Nevarro from mercenaries that could either be agents of the Empire or the Pyke Syndicate from The Book of Boba Fett.
Toward to the end of the official trailer, Grogu uses the Force to push away a beast of some sort out of a cave in the desert with Mando’s off-screen voice saying, “This is the way.” Combined with earlier teasers, it is definite that we will see Grogu realizing his true potential as a Jedi despite turning away from formal training and possibly becoming the first Mandalorian Jedi since Tarre Vizsla, who created the Darksaber. All these reveals imply many possibilities where this will go such as a possible outbreak of civil war with another Mandalorian as who is their people’s leader especially between Bo-Katan Kryze and Din Djarin. It’s also possible Grogu finally wields the Darksaber and even teaches Mando how to properly do so, allowing Mando to rise to his true destiny.
The Mandalorian Season 3 Storyline?
Season 3 is likely to allow viewers to dive much deeper into Mandalorian culture and history. During season 2, Din Djarin met Bo-Katan and her Nite Owls, and he vowed to help them reclaim Mandalore if they assisted him in recovering Grogu. Mando defeated Moff Gideon in combat, took the Darksaber and became Mandalore’s rightful ruler. Given from what happen The Book of Boba Fett series, not all Mandalorians are content to leave the Darksaber with Din Djarin. There are possibilities where he will be challenged by the scattered Mandalorians as he attempts to reunite them. It’s pretty obvious Din Djarin will need training to use Darksaber. Anyone can use lightsabers but Jedi are well aware of the mediation techniques that allow them to bond with the blade to master the lightsabers techniques. Din Djarin doesn’t know any of these yet.
At the end of The Mandalorian – Season 2, Luke Skywalker came to get Grogu to start the training as a part of his new Jedi Order. This wasn’t going to be the final goodbye for Din Djarin. He even had Beskar armor made for Grogu. It cost Din Djarin’s quest dearly since the old clan are exiling him for breaking the helmet rule during the quest. With all of the chaos, this made Din Djarin eager to reconnect with the rest of this family, especially with Grogu. Sure enough at the end of the The Book of Boba Fett, Grogu and Mando reunited as he has chosen the Mandalorian Way over the Jedi Teachings. The Mandalorian season 3 will start with them again along with Baba Fett character like Fennec Shan, Black Krrsantan, and Boba Fett.
The Mandalorian Season 3 Rumors
Some key details have been revealed of what we may expect to see in The Mandalorian Season 3. We will be seeing Bo-Katan developing her relationship with Din Djarin as two very different Mandalorians as also she will explore her own personal journey of self-discovery. She has some “unfinished business” to take care of. We also saw that Gideon ended up behind bars at the end of Season 2. It was hinted that Gideon breaks out of prison and brings the fractured Empire leaders for a scandalous purpose.
In a fun twist, Christopher Lloyd and Tim have been cast for The Mandalorian with unknown roles at this time. Also this question is where we will see any characters from various spin offs such as Rosario Dawnson’s Ahsoka, Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett, and Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand as well. Another rumor is that we might see a live-action character from Star Wars: Rebels who could appear in The Mandalorian.
How The Mandalorian Season 3 Will Be Different
Given that The Book of Boba Fett aka The Mandalorian Season 2.5 if you look at it that way, for poor writing, it’s a reassuring sign that The Mandalorian took their time to develop its character and story in a deeper way. We will see the dynamic relationship between Grogu and Mando continue to evolve. This season promises to be darker and it’s going to be better and denser with action and character beats. The Mandalorian will show the Armorer in much more active role as this story will focus on Din Djarin’s return to Mandalore and his quest to redeem himself as a Mandalorian.
What about the teaser?
Disney has released several teaser trailers to keep us on our toes to see what’s coming to the upcoming season of The Mandalorian. This season will definitely explore Mandalorian culture even more. It shows that Din and Grogu traveling to Mandalore itself to give us a first look at the homeland of titular warrior clan. Din made an oath to help Bo-Katan take back Mandalore and it is going to be incredibly conflicted throughout the season for both Din and Grogu in their own power and purpose that’s ahead of them.
This is the way.
