Guillermo del Toro is building a monster roster with his ongoing project with Netflix. After last year, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio was a hit on Netflix. From that success, del Toro is already working on bringing another iconic story to the screen: Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
We are all familiar with Frankenstein as it’s been adapted in many different forms of storytelling. From the 1931 iconic James Whale’s movie to 1994’s Cult film by Kenneth Branagh, we also have seen spinoffs like Bride of Frankenstein, Young Frankenstein, and more.
Guillermo del Toro will bring Frankenstein into a new life. Between his success with Hellboy and Pinocchio, his work speaks for itself. There is already a stacked cast line up such as Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man), Mia Goth, (X, Pearl) and Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight) are all on board to star.
Guillermo del Toro is still working on the script as we don’t know if the storyline will follow Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein or be adapted to the modern time or past time. It’s a good guess that Goth will be playing Victor Frankenstein’s love interest while Garfield as Dr. Frankenstein himself and Isaac will be the monster.
There is no release date yet for the upcoming Frankenstein. It has been on Del Toro’s mind for over a decade to create a film adaptation of the novel. Miniseries was del Toro’s preferred way to tell the story. “The only way to do the Shelley novel is to actually do a four-hour miniseries, but I think there are permutations in which you can tell the myth in a different way,” he said.
