Disney Cruise Line just celebrated a construction milestone for Disney Treasure that is set to debut in 2024. The keel laying ceremony took place at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany where the ship is being built.
Keel is the main member and a backbone of the ship that runs along in the center of the ship from stem to stern. It also provides the foundation to go up like a rib attached on each side of the ship.
Disney Treasure will feature an adventure motif which is a tribute to Walt Disney’s love of exploration. There will be inspiration found on the ship from real places like Asia and Africa as well as fictional places such as Agrabah.
The ceremony, which follows maritime tradition, involved placing a newly-minted coin under the keel of the ship. The likeness of Captain Minnie Mouse was etched on the coin along with the words, “Voyager Minnie.”
The statue in the grand hall will feature three characters: Aladdin, Jasmine and Magic Carpet from Disney’s 1992 animated film “Aladdin.”
Disney Treasure is the second of three new classes of ships for the cruise line — the first was Disney Wish, which set sail on its maiden voyage on July 14, 2022.
All of the new ships will have 1,254 staterooms and run on liquefied natural gas.
